The Manu Smriti says that the ambitious satriyas of Bharatvarsha went abroad to the neighboring countries to establish their new kingdoms and, as they were cut off from the mainstream of the Bhartiya civilization and culture, they developed their own language and civilization as time went on. Natural calamities (such as ice ages) totally shattered their civilizations but still the survivors, in the spoken form of their primitive languages, held many apbhransh words of the original Sanskrit language which their remote ancestors had retained in their memory. As a result of this affiliation with Bhartiya culture and the Sanskrit language, Sanskrit became the origin of the growth of the literary development in other languages of the world.
When a language is spoken by unqualified people the pronunciation of the word changes to some extent; and when these words travel by word of mouth to another region of the land, with the gap of some generations, it permanently changes its form and shape to some extent. Just like the Sanskrit word matri, with a long 'a' and soft 't,' became "mater" in Greek and "mother" in English. The last two words are called the 'apbhransh' of the original Sanskrit word 'matri.' Such apbhranshas of Sanskrit words are found in all the languages of the world and this situation itself proves that Sanskrit was the mother language of the world.
India was the motherland of our race, and Sanskrit the mother of European languages. She was the mother of our philosophy … of our mathematics … of the ideals embodied in Christianity … of self government and democracy…mother India is in many ways the mother of us all.

Thanks to the authors for sharing those wonderful observations! Remarkable similarities do exist, surprising!!
I am sure, the literature of the local lore and historical evidences too might support to the phonetic-similarity.
The mentioned facts are not mere co-incidences.These are the reality.India once ruled the whole of the Globe and as such contributed to the place-names /proper nouns etc.all over the Globe. The invaluable research paper "India in Greece'',available on-line furnishes the complete story. The book is worth reading for the interested readers.
Congrats,
It 's an excellent work.
I am also keen on this topic & have found out many such names & have some detailed study.

Really it was a great adventure…to dig all the historical evidences…that every had claimed it as a mythology. I am very greetful to all the contribuitors to find this & hope so that we will make the world know about this. As naturally me also an historian not by the profession, have kept on thinking about all these variances of people throught out the world…at one stage i understand that INDIA is a Spiritually more advanced nation. Thanks for the information & giving me an opportunity to comment on this. and want to know more about our glorious past.
All the above interpretations are derived and carries no resemblance. Australia to astra alaya is absolutely a meaningless derivation. Syria from Surya is a no way correct.Syria comes from Asseria or Asshur origin. Scandinavia, russia are some funny derivations. I dont understand why you want to destroy the truth and spread wrong message. Egypt to Ajapati is another fraudulent and meangless derivation. Egypt comes from Gypt which is of modern greek orgin and egypt is know as al misr. German to Sharman, Angulistan(anglastan) moscow from moksha are absolute non sense.
Please do not distort the truth which is an anti hindu act.
i just thought the same thing. most of those names were anglicized name, exonames, not the real name.the egypt thing is one example. egypt is the english name of misriya/ misr. and i think the real name of german is deuscheland, not german. about the trigonometry and navigation, yes perhaps it's true, because sanskrit and latin/greek has the same root.
Even I thought about Australia to be wierd, but after some research of my own I was astounded. Our scriptures speak of various astras - brahmaastra, agneyastra, pashupatastra etc. Australia is a land very far to the south. It is the most barren continent of the world. It also has one of the largest reserves of URANIUM (used for atomic bombs). I came to believe that this land was used by ancients for making their weapons (or it may have been predicted that this land will be used for making weapons in the future). As it was a dangerous land and a barren land, they kept it far away from mainland civilization (due to the weaponry).
About America, Amaraka means the land of immortals. It can also mean a land which will not be easily conquerable if it is colonized. Today, what is the situation? Can anyone dare to attack America? They have the most developed defense and military warfare like stealth planes, rail guns etc. and who has the largest number of nukes? So, they are immortal in a way. But they should be careful not to blow themselves away.
"I am CONVINCED that everything has come down to us from the banks of the river Ganges". — Francois Voltaire. (Philosopher, Historian, Writer)
It is true, eevry name of the river in the world, every mountain, every constellation name has a link to Sanskrit. Example Russianr river ,Volga , in ancient times was known as "Jalaga". In Sanskrit Jala is water, Ga is that which is moving. Volga means ' moving water', similar to 'Ganga' which means "swift moving".
Without acceptable references, these are but just claims. Perhaps, wild and imaginative.
The etymology of Volga was proposed by linguist Nikolai Trubetzkoy (1890-1938) , in his lectures at the University of Vienna. He linked the name 'Volga' to the Slavic 'Julga', which he says in course of time changed to 'Volga'.
'Jal' or 'jul' is Water in Sanskrit. 'Ga' means that which is flowing.' Hence 'Julga'.
Congratulations. This article is hereby awarded the Most Ridiculous Piece of Bullshit on the Internet award, which is an amazing achievement, considering the number of idiots the internet houses and nurtures. Do you have any idea about world history, linguistics or etymology? (Or common sense, for that matter?) 'America' comes from Amerigo Vespucci, the first chap to say the New World was not the India Columbus believed it to be. 'Egypt' comes from Aigiao Hyptos which means below the Aegean (Sea). 'Russia' comes from Rus, a Viking tribe which eventually founded the first major historically principality in Western Russia. 'Arab' has Semitic roots. 'England' comes from the tribe known as Angles who migrated there from Germania. And dear lord in heaven…Bolshevik?? Hindenburg?? Soviet?? You know what, people like you are chiefly responsible for facts disappearing under an avalanche of stupidity. Here's an example: It is true that the word 'Danube', or 'Dnieper' or 'Dniester' are connected to the word 'Danu'. They are all derived from a proto-Indo-European word for river (that's right, in case you read the Vedas, which you haven't you would know that Danu, mother of the Danavas, was also a reference to rivers). You know, acquiring knowledge is a painstaking, methodical process. People like you just ruin everything. Ah, what's the point….
THE SANSKRIT CONNECTION TO THE NAME 'DANUBE'
In antiquity, the River Danube had many names. In Latin, the Danube was known as Danubius and Danuvius. In ancient Greek it was known as the 'Istros'.
The name 'Danube' is said to derive from Proto-Indo-European, a language reconstructed from European & Indic languages. In PIE, the word 'dānu' is apparently a term for "river", but PIE of course does not have any scriptures or literature that detail the context in which the Danube was called "danu". The word "Danu" simply translates as "a river". It is said that the PIE root word is 'da' which means 'rapid, swift and violent'.*
In Sanskrit, the word 'Danu" (दानु) has many meanings. It means 'dew, dew drops, fluid, valiant and courageous'. The root word is 'da' (दा) which means 'that which is cleansing and purifying, giving and protecting'. This is probably more appropriate as a name source for a revered river.
The Rig Veda and Puranas identify the details of Goddess Danu and her sons, the Danavas. In the Vedic context, 'Danu' was a primeval cosmic river. Goddess Danu, the daughter of Daksha, who was the son of Brahma, embodied the primeval waters. For more details about the story of Goddess Danu and Danavas click here.
*Just a quick look at other related Sanskrit words. 'Drav' (द्राव) means 'going quickly' and (द्रुत) means to run. The root word here 'dru' (द्रु); which means to 'run', 'go swiftly', 'melt', 'dissove' and 'become fluid'. The 'dru' root word may describe the river's swiftness, but it lacks the 'cleansing and purifying, giving and protecting' aspect that the 'da' (दा) root word adds to the description of the river.
The Sanskrit word for 'rapid' is "Ishiram" (इषिरम्) which is the etymological source for "Istros", the Greek name for the River Danube.
In his book 'Annals and Antiquities of Rajasthan', Lt. Col. Todd, a high ranking officer of the East India Company' traced the lineage of the Yadus right back to Sri Krishna and his sons. The East India company was so put off by his research in India that they sent him back to England. This book is a must read.
The freedom of the internet is very important, and these stupidities do not support that.
Sid, Russia is thought to be a shortning for "Ruriks rike" or "Ruriks land (Ryssland), Rurik was a viking chief.
